Paper Honeycomb Cleanroom Panels

Paper Honeycomb Cleanroom Panels from SENBO combine color-coated steel or stainless steel facings with a flame-retardant honeycomb core. B1 fire rating, oxygen index ≥44.2%. Lightweight yet strong. Ideal for electronics, hospitals, pharmaceutical, food processing. Custom sizes and OEM available—contact for factory quotes and samples.

Paper Honeycomb Cleanroom Panels are lightweight composite panels designed for controlled environment enclosures. SENBO Building Materials supplies these panels for cleanroom projects that prioritize reduced structural load and environmental performance.

The panel uses a composite sandwich structure. Facings are made from color-coated steel, galvanized steel, or stainless steel with a thickness of 0.3–1.0 mm, customizable to project requirements. The core is flame-retardant paper honeycomb, and the edges are sealed with cold-drawn profiles before the assembly is bonded into the final panel.

The honeycomb core is made from natural wood pulp, processed into a corrugated shape and bonded with water-resistant adhesive to form a hexagonal structure. This design provides structural support while keeping the panel lightweight. Core density ranges from 20 to 42 kg/m³, and compressive strength is between 1.5 and 5.0 MPa.

Available Dimensions and Connection Methods

Standard panel thicknesses are 50 mm, 75 mm, and 100 mm, with customization available from 35 mm to 250 mm. Standard widths include 950 mm, 980 mm, 1150 mm, and 1180 mm. Wall panel length can reach 9,000 mm, while ceiling panel length is limited to 4,000 mm.

Several connection methods are available to suit different installation scenarios: tongue-and-groove, central aluminum profile, male-female joint, and "three-female-one-male" configurations.

Tested Performance Data

1. Fire Resistance: Class B1 and ≥60 Minutes Rating

The flame-retardant performance has been tested by the National Center for Quality Supervision and Testing of Fire-Resistant Building Materials in accordance with GB 8624-1997, achieving a Class B1 (flame-retardant) rating. The oxygen index is at least 44.2%, which exceeds the Class B1 standard requirement.

Unlike polystyrene cores that melt and drip when exposed to fire, the paper honeycomb core chars without burning and produces no toxic substances. A 100 mm thick panel offers a fire resistance rating of at least 60 minutes.

2. Thermal Insulation: Conductivity ≤0.048 W/(m·K)

The porous honeycomb structure provides effective thermal insulation. With a measured thermal conductivity of no more than 0.048 W/(m·K), the panel reduces heat transfer between interior and exterior spaces. This performance is comparable to rock wool cleanroom panels of the same thickness, yet the panel weighs only 60%–70% as much.

3. Mechanical Properties: Compressive Strength 1.5–5.0 MPa

The hexagonal honeycomb structure offers good compressive strength and tensile properties. Measured compressive strength ranges from 1.5 to 5.0 MPa, outperforming foam plastic cores of similar density. The cold-drawn edge framing further improves overall rigidity and flexural load-bearing capacity. These properties support applications such as suspended ceilings in electronics plants and partition walls in pharmaceutical workshops.

4. Lightweight Construction: Reduced Structural Load

With a core density of 20–42 kg/m³, paper honeycomb panels weigh approximately 60%–70% less than rock wool panels of the same thickness. This is particularly useful for suspended ceiling systems and partition walls in high-rise cleanroom facilities, as it reduces the load on the main structure and can lower foundation costs.

5. Environmental Profile: Renewable and Recyclable

The core is made from natural wood pulp, and the manufacturing process is energy-efficient. The panels contain no toxic components and release no harmful emissions during use. At the end of their service life, the panels are fully recyclable.

6. Cleanroom Engineering Applications

Paper Honeycomb Cleanroom Panels have been used in several cleanroom settings:

Hospital operating rooms: Wall and ceiling systems provide a clean environment, with a dense, smooth surface and tight joints that help prevent bacterial growth.

Electronics and chip manufacturing: The lightweight panels are used for ceilings and partitions, where reduced weight simplifies overhead installation.

Pharmaceutical GMP workshops: The panels meet cleanliness and insulation requirements, and the Class B1 fire rating supports production safety.

Food processing plants: Walls and partitions are easy to clean, moisture-resistant, and free of contamination.

Key Features and Practical Benefits

1. Class B1 Fire Safety Without Toxic Smoke. The core achieves a Class B1 rating and chars rather than burns. The oxygen index of at least 44.2% offers a clear safety margin compared to polystyrene core materials.

2. Lightweight with Adequate Strength. Core density is only 20–42 kg/m³, roughly 60%–70% lighter than rock wool panels. Compressive strength of 1.5–5.0 MPa supports cleanroom ceiling and partition applications.

3. Thermal and Acoustic Insulation. Thermal conductivity of 0.048 W/(m·K) or less provides insulation performance, while the honeycomb structure also contributes to sound reduction.

4. Renewable and Recyclable Materials. The wood pulp core is renewable, and the panels are fully recyclable at end of life. No harmful emissions are released during use.

5. Efficient Installation with Modular Design. Factory-prefabricated panels feature quick connections and lengths up to 9 meters, reducing the number of seams on site.

Installation and Handling Notes

For ceiling applications: Confirm the maximum panel length (4,000 mm for ceiling panels) and supporting grid spacing before installation. The lightweight nature simplifies lifting, but proper support is still required to prevent deflection.

For wall partitions: Select the appropriate connection method based on the layout. Central aluminum profiles provide a clean finish, while tongue-and-groove joints offer faster assembly.

For high-humidity areas: Although the core is treated with water-resistant adhesive, long-term exposure to standing water should be avoided. Seal all joints and edges properly during installation.

During transport and storage: Store panels flat in a dry area and protect the facings from scratches. The PVC protective film should remain in place until final cleaning.

Where These Panels Are Used

1. Hospital operating rooms, ICU wards, and sterile supply rooms.

2. Electronic chip factories and semiconductor cleanrooms.

3. Pharmaceutical GMP workshops and biological laboratories.

4. Food processing workshops and central kitchens.

5. Warehouses and cold storage facilities requiring thermal insulation.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How does paper honeycomb compare to rock wool for cleanroom panels?

Paper honeycomb is significantly lighter (20–42 kg/m³ vs. 100–120 kg/m³) while offering comparable thermal insulation. Rock wool is Class A non-combustible, while paper honeycomb is Class B1 flame-retardant. The choice often depends on fire rating requirements and structural load considerations.

2. Is the paper honeycomb core affected by moisture?

The core is bonded with water-resistant adhesive, which provides some protection against humidity. However, the panels are designed for interior cleanroom use. Prolonged exposure to standing water or continuous high-humidity conditions should be avoided, and all joints should be properly sealed.

3. Can these panels be used for exterior walls?

These panels are primarily designed for interior applications. For exterior use, the facing material and core would need to be specifically selected and tested for outdoor weather resistance. It is recommended to consult the manufacturer for exterior applications.

4. How are ceiling panels supported?

Ceiling panels are supported by a grid system, with the panel length limited to 4,000 mm to control deflection. The specific support spacing depends on the panel thickness and the expected load. The manufacturer's recommendations should be followed for grid spacing and connection details.

5. What fire rating documentation is available?

Test reports from the National Center for Quality Supervision and Testing of Fire-Resistant Building Materials are available upon request. The reports document the Class B1 rating according to GB 8624-1997 and the oxygen index of at least 44.2%.
